Adventure is Calling – Appalachian Trail Class of 2019

The following was written in August 2018.

This weekend I am flying to Detroit from Atlanta to visit my college roommate.  I go to her once a year and she comes to me once a year.  I had the window seat on my flight, which is my favorite!  I get to control the window shade and look down on the landscape below whenever I want!  Way better than being next to the aisle and way, WAY better than being in the dreaded middle seat.

Early in this flight I had looked out the window to see what I believe to have been the mountains of North Georgia.  Somewhere down there is the Appalachian Trail…  Next Spring, I’ll be somewhere down there headed towards Maine.

To say that it was a strange feeling to look down on the land that I will be walking on for five months next year and cross it in only a few hours is an understatement.

I am making the conscious decision to walk from Georgia to Maine instead of hoping on a plane and getting there in a few hours.  Crazy?  A little.  Questionable life choice?  Potentially.  Am I going to do it anyways?  Hell yeah!

The adventure is calling and I can either let it pass me by or I can answer it.

Many people will probably never understand.  That’s okay.  They don’t have to ‘get it.’  I get it and that’s what matters.

Appalachian Trail Class of 2019, here I come!
